Fire Safety Inspection at Over 14,500 Voting and Counting Centers Nationwide for the April 15 General Election
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The National Fire Agency announced on the 24th that it will conduct fire safety inspections at 14,581 voting and counting stations nationwide by May 2nd in preparation for the 21st National Assembly election to be held on April 15th.
During this safety inspection, the agency will check the status of fire extinguisher placement and the proper operation of fire and evacuation facilities at 14,330 polling stations and 251 counting stations, and identify any fire hazards such as objects piled up in hallways and staircases.
At special early voting stations operated within residential treatment centers during the early voting period (April 10-11), fire officials permanently assigned to the facilities will inspect and remove fire hazards in advance and strengthen preventive patrols.
The National Fire Agency explained that before the fire safety inspectors begin their duties, their body temperatures will be measured, and they will be required to wear masks and gloves, minimizing contact with the public.
Additionally, from April 9th until the counting is completed, approximately one week will be designated as a special alert duty period during which fire prevention patrols will be intensified.
On election day, fire trucks will be deployed in advance at polling stations, and two fire officials will be assigned inside each counting station.
