People's Daily Repeatedly Criticizes the US... "Must Escape from Political Virus"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] Chinese state media are intensively attacking the United States, which has been blaming China for the spread of COVID-19 day after day.
The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, stated in an editorial titled Zhong Sheng on the 23rd, "Some people in the United States should quickly abandon their political prejudices, free themselves from the 'political virus,' and join the global fight against COVID-19. Otherwise, they will only harm themselves and others."
Although the newspaper did not explicitly name anyone, it criticized, "Some people in the United States are deliberately spreading the 'political virus' despite the spread of COVID-19 within the country, making racist remarks and shifting the blame onto China."
It further argued, "The United States' erroneous claim that China did not provide COVID-19 related information in a timely manner is not even worth refuting," adding, "China began notifying the United States of COVID-19 related information and prevention measures starting January 3. On January 4, the heads of the disease control authorities of both countries held a phone call and agreed to maintain close communication and technical cooperation."
It also questioned, "The United States should ask itself. It has been two months since information was shared, but what COVID-19 control measures has the United States actually taken?"
The newspaper pointed out that American politicians blaming China for the spread of COVID-19 is like speaking with a forked tongue. It recalled that on January 25, President Donald Trump tweeted that the Chinese people were working very hard on COVID-19 prevention, stating, "The United States expressed satisfaction with China's efforts and transparency in COVID-19 prevention."
Moreover, it emphasized that on February 7, during a phone call between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese response to COVID-19 was positively evaluated, and that at a press conference on March 13, President Trump mentioned that the COVID-19 data shared by China would help prevent the spread of the virus in the United States.

The newspaper concluded, "China is fulfilling its responsibility to global public health and has implemented comprehensive, strict, and thorough prevention measures since the outbreak of COVID-19," adding, "The achievements China has shown in COVID-19 prevention have bought the world time to respond to the virus, and this is something recognized worldwide."
