Minsaengdang, Conflict Erupts Over Public Office Committee Formation... Daansindang and Pyeonghadan Factions Declare "Null and Void"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 15th, the Minsaeng Party experienced an explosive factional conflict over the formation of the Nomination Management Committee (Nomination Committee). The Bareunmirae Party faction pushed through the approval of the Nomination Committee regulations, while the Alternative New Party and the Party for Democracy and Peace factions opposed it as null and void.
On the same day, the Minsaeng Party held a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly to discuss the Nomination Committee regulations. Co-leaders Yoo Seong-yeop and Park Ju-hyun were absent.
Co-leader Kim Jeong-hwa attempted to approve regulations to form the Nomination Committee with nine members, including three external members: the Nomination Committee Chairperson and two members recommended by the Chairperson. Among the four attendees at the Supreme Council, the vote was split 2 to 2. Then, the Bareunmirae Party faction cited the party constitution and rules stating that in the case of a tie, the party leader makes the final decision.
The Alternative New Party and the Party for Democracy and Peace factions strongly opposed this. They stated that Co-leader Yoo delegated his voting rights to Supreme Council member Hwang In-cheol, and Co-leader Park, who was in self-quarantine, requested a telephone vote, but the Bareunmirae Party faction did not acknowledge these.
Supreme Council members Hwang In-cheol and Lee Gwan-seung issued a statement saying, “The rushed vote exploiting the COVID-19 quarantine is null and void,” and “The Minsaeng Party constitution specifies that the exercise of representative authority requires the consensus of three co-leaders. Therefore, for the party leader to exercise authority to decide in the event of a tie, there should have been at least minimal consultation with the co-leaders.”

They added, “Today’s rushed vote not only trampled on the spirit of the three-party integration but is also unacceptable legally and politically. We declare it null and void and demand a reconsideration.”
