Gyeongnam Office of Education Releases Materials on 'Democratization Movements in Textbooks'
Textbooks, Kim Ju-yeol Martyr's Photographic Materials, and More Released
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education announced on the 12th that it has unveiled records that allow reflection on the significance of the democratization movement in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the March 15th Movement.
The newly released materials include two photographic records of martyr Kim Ju-yeol, the 1660s student conduct regulations, and content related to the democratization movement found in textbooks.
The 'Martyr Kim Ju-yeol' records consist of a photo showing a tear gas canister lodged in his eye and another photo depicting the situation when his body was recovered at the pier, taken at the time his body was found on April 11, 1960.
The '1960 Tongyeong Middle School Student Conduct Regulations' prohibit joining political parties or other social organizations and restrict participation in off-campus events without the principal's permission.
The '1965 6th Grade Social Studies Textbook' refers to the April 19 Revolution as the April 19 Movement, describing how students and the public rose up to protest the dictatorship of the Liberal Party. It also describes the May 16 military coup as a ‘revolution,’ portraying the military takeover as an effort to restore order to a chaotic society.
The released records can be viewed through the ‘Thematic Records’ section on the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education Archives website.
