According to KEPCO, the 'CIO 100 Awards' is an award presented by IDG (International Data Group), a global research organization.
It is an award given annually to 100 companies and institutions worldwide that demonstrate outstanding IT-based creative innovation achievements. The final selection is made through a first round of evaluation by over 50 external experts including CIOs and professors, followed by a second in-depth verification by internal specialists.
KEPCO stated that it received the award in recognition of its provision of social welfare solutions utilizing power big data and the launch of the Power Big Data Convergence Center, which enhances big data private sector open services.
The Power Big Data Convergence Center consists of the Data Science Research Institute (analyzing power big data), the Power Data Sharing Center (open for data utilization), and the Energy Marketplace Portal (distributing data services).
KEPCO announced that in response to the energy paradigm of 'digital transformation,' it is the first energy public enterprise to develop and provide various social welfare solutions by converging power big data with private big data.
Currently, it offers social welfare solution services such as 'Welfare Check for Vulnerable Single-Person Households,' 'Urban Vulnerable Area Analysis for Crime Prevention,' and 'Customer High-Voltage Power Receiving Facility Quality Management Service.'
Through the Welfare Check for Vulnerable Single-Person Households service, power usage and smartphone location data are utilized to analyze the relationship between power consumption and location; if abnormal signs are detected, an alarm is sent to welfare centers.
The Urban Vulnerable Area Analysis service helps local governments select optimal locations for installing security CCTV by integrating and analyzing public data such as power usage, floating population, and crime rates to identify vulnerable areas.
The Customer High-Voltage Power Receiving Facility Quality Management Service contributes to preventing electrical equipment failures by providing electrical quality information such as power factor and harmonic effects through big data analysis of power data (AMI).
