Xi Jinping's First Visit to Wuhan, the Epicenter of COVID-19... Spread Shows Signs of Slowing Down
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 10th, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, known as the origin of COVID-19.
On the 10th, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that President Xi took a flight to Wuhan in the morning and began inspecting COVID-19 prevention and control activities in Hubei Province and Wuhan City.
The inspection of prevention activities by President Xi included visits to numerous medical workers fighting COVID-19, as well as soldiers, community center staff, police officers, volunteers, patients, and local residents, the newspaper reported.
Earlier, Hong Kong media Ming Pao, citing sources in Beijing, reported that President Xi would soon visit Wuhan to inspect the COVID-19 prevention situation.
This is President Xi’s first visit to Wuhan since the outbreak of COVID-19. Only Premier Li Keqiang had visited Wuhan in the early stages of the outbreak to direct measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Also, the head of the Communist Party Central COVID-19 Task Force is Premier Li, not President Xi.
President Xi’s visit to Wuhan, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, may symbolically dispel criticism that important tasks were left to Premier Li and simultaneously convey to the Chinese people that the government has won the battle against COVID-19.
In fact, the COVID-19 situation in China has somewhat entered a stabilization phase. On the 9th, China reported only 19 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 17 additional deaths in one day.
