Daegu City Announces Plans to Report Shincheonji Members Avoiding COVID-19 Testing
44 out of 50 Tested... 6 Have Valid Reasons Such as Military Service
[Daegu·Gyeongbuk=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] After Daegu city announced its intention to file charges against 50 Shincheonji Daegu Church members who evaded COVID-19 diagnostic testing, all of them underwent testing within a day.
According to the city on the 10th, 44 of the 50 Shincheonji members who received a final ultimatum the previous day completed diagnostic testing. The remaining 6 were confirmed to be unable to get tested due to reasons such as military service.
Daegu city explained, "It has been confirmed that all tests were completed by yesterday."
Earlier, the city stated that among the 8,178 first-phase Shincheonji management targets, the 50 members who had not yet been tested would be reported if they did not undergo testing by the 9th.
As of 7 a.m. that day, 10,458 Shincheonji members under city management had 10,375 (99.2%) complete diagnostic testing. Among the 9,820 people whose test results were notified, 4,173 (42.5%) were confirmed positive.
Among the 2,286 second and third-phase management targets, 83 still have not undergone diagnostic testing. At the regular briefing, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin emphasized, "Their self-quarantine period lasts until tomorrow," and "We demand that they get tested today."
