Kim Hong-hee, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, Visits Jindo Paengmok Port to Reinforce Maritime Safety Commitment

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Kim Hong-hee, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, announced on the 9th that he visited Mokpo and Jindo Paengmok Port as his first on-site security inspection destinations since taking office, reaffirming his determination to do his best to create a safe sea in the Republic of Korea.
Commissioner Kim first paid tribute to the late Lieutenant Park Kyung-jo, who was commemorated at the Noeul Park in Mokpo, honoring the spirit of sacrifice of the deceased who did not hesitate to risk his life to protect the seas of the Republic of Korea, and renewed his commitment to thoroughly defend Korea’s maritime territory against neighboring countries.
Afterwards, he visited the Mokpo New Port, where the Sewol ferry hull is stationed, and the Jindo Sewol Ferry Paengmok Memorial Hall to mourn the victims. He also visited the Mokpo Coast Guard Station Jindo Substation and the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) center to encourage the staff, urging them to do their best to ensure public safety so that similar accidents like the Sewol ferry disaster do not recur in the seas of Korea.
While visiting the Paengmok Port Memorial Hall, Commissioner Kim stated, “We will take the Sewol ferry disaster as an eternal lesson, never forget the pain, and do our utmost so that no more citizens shed tears at sea.”
He added, “We must make relentless efforts to strengthen the Coast Guard’s rescue capabilities and become an organization loved and trusted by the public by safely protecting the lives and property of citizens in any situation.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner Kim Hong-hee plans to continue his memorial activities for the Sewol ferry victims by visiting the 416 Memory Classroom and Memory Exhibition Hall in Ansan on the 10th and meeting with the families’ council.
