'Cumulative Contracts 21,000 Units' Genesis GV80 Gasoline Model Launches... Anticipation in the US Too
Gasoline Model with 2.5 Turbo and 3.5 Turbo Engines Launched Domestically
Pre-orders Surpass 6,000 in the US, Raising Expectations... Summer Release Announced
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Genesis has completed the engine lineup by adding a gasoline model (photo) to its brand's first sports utility vehicle (SUV), the 'GV80'. With the cumulative number of contracts for the previously released 3.0 diesel model already approaching the annual sales target, the strengthened lineup is expected to continue its popularity.
Genesis announced on the 9th that it will start selling the GV80 gasoline models, which are the first to apply 2.5 turbo and 3.5 turbo engines. The prices start at 60.37 million KRW for the 2.5 turbo and 65.87 million KRW for the 3.5 turbo.
The 2.5 turbo model features a maximum output of 304 horsepower and a maximum torque of 43.0 kgf·m, while the 3.5 turbo model delivers a maximum output of 380 horsepower and a maximum torque of 54.0 kgf·m. The combined fuel efficiency is 9.7 km/ℓ and 8.6 km/ℓ, respectively.
The new turbo engines are characterized by improved fuel efficiency and response performance through a dual fuel injection system and a water-cooled intercooler. The dual fuel injection system optimally applies the injection method by combining the advantages of gasoline direct injection (GDi), which injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber, and multi-point injection (MPi), which injects fuel into the intake port at the combustion chamber entrance. The water-cooled intercooler quickly cools the air entering the engine, enhancing the turbocharger's responsiveness.
The Genesis GV80 diesel model, launched in January, surpassed 21,000 cumulative contracts by last month. Notably, 82.3% of all contract customers chose all-wheel drive (AWD).
Expectations for the GV80 are also high in the United States. Only the gasoline model is planned for release in the U.S., and ahead of full-scale sales this summer, over 6,000 units have already been pre-ordered. On the 5th (local time), Genesis North America revealed that the starting price for the GV80 in the North American market is $48,900 (approximately 59 million KRW). This is more than $5,000 lower than the starting prices of last year's top-selling luxury mid-size SUVs in the U.S., such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE and BMW X5.
Mark Del Rosso, CEO of Genesis North America, said, "The number of pre-orders for the GV80 has already exceeded 6,000," adding, "We look forward to showcasing the new design, quality, and advanced technology applied to this model as soon as possible."
