The forestry sector financial support job project selected participants by publicly recruiting from the 3rd to the 14th of last month, considering vulnerable groups, household income, number of dependents, and assets.
It consists of a total of 40 people, who will work as a kudzu vine removal task force, forest maintenance personnel, a forestry biomass collection team for resource recycling alternatives, a landslide prevention team, and urban green space managers.
In particular, until the end of the year, they plan to promptly respond to prevent residents from suffering damage due to unexpected forest damage such as typhoons and landslides, along with creating a pleasant street environment by removing vines that hinder forest growth and maintaining major roadsides.
Meanwhile, Wando-gun, which has evergreen subtropical forests and a clean environment throughout the four seasons, has a forest area (259.06㎢) accounting for 65.3% of Wando's total area.
However, as forest damage such as pine tree death is predicted due to recent climate change, the county plans to systematically manage forest resources through this job project.
Shin Woo-cheol, the mayor of Wando-gun, said, “Our county accounts for 34% of the nation's subtropical forest area. We expect that by implementing the financial support job project to preserve the evergreen subtropical forest throughout the four seasons, we will cultivate beautiful forest resources, revitalize the local economy through job creation, and contribute to household income.”
