On the same day, the external propaganda media "Meari" mentioned the postponement of the joint exercises scheduled for March due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in an article titled "War Exercises Blocked by Epidemic and Showing Off," stating, "This postponement of war exercises is purely due to the spread of COVID-19."
The media said, "The authorities and the U.S., feeling great danger from COVID-19 spreading rapidly to almost all regions and even within the U.S. Forces Korea, took measures for safety," adding, "Nevertheless, the (South Korean) authorities are arrogantly acting as if these measures were taken 'proactively' for improving inter-Korean relations."
Meari continued, "Isn't it the same authorities who insisted until just a few days ago that joint exercises must be carried out to transfer wartime operational control?" and said, "Even though they had wanted to conduct the war exercises so badly, they had to stop because of the terrifying epidemic, and now they are postponing it as if they are bestowing 'goodwill' on someone, which is utterly distasteful."
It added, "The authorities' childishness in using even the war exercises blocked by the epidemic as a show-off makes one's face burn with shame."
Meanwhile, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced on the 9th, "This morning, three unidentified projectiles launched from the Seondeok area in South Hamgyong Province toward the northeastern East Sea were detected."
This marks one week since North Korea last fired projectiles, and five days after Chairman Kim Jong Un sent a letter to President Moon Jae-in.
