China Reports 99 New COVID-19 Cases... First Double-Digit Figure Since Statistics Began
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] In China, the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has fallen below 100 for the first time since related statistics began to be compiled.
The National Health Commission of China announced on the 7th that as of the previous day, there were 99 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in China is 80,651, with 3,070 deaths.
The number of new confirmed cases in China remained in the 100s for four consecutive days, with 202 on the 1st, 125 on the 2nd, 119 on the 3rd, 139 on the 4th, and 143 on the 5th. Then, the previous day, it dropped below 100, marking the lowest figure since the statistics began to be compiled.
However, among entrants from Iran and Italy, confirmed cases continue to emerge, with 25 new confirmed cases reported outside Hubei Province.
In Hubei Province, including Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, there were 74 new confirmed cases and 28 deaths.
Meanwhile, the number of suspected COVID-19 patients nationwide in China is 502. So far, 55,404 patients have recovered and been discharged. There are currently 22,177 confirmed patients undergoing treatment, including 5,489 severe cases. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Chinese territories outside mainland China is 162.
