Democratic Party Decides Single Nomination for Jo Jeong-sik in 'Siheung-eul'... Party Committee Reverses Primary Election Plan
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 6th, the Democratic Party of Korea decided to nominate Cho Jung-sik, the Policy Committee Chair, as the sole candidate for the April 15 general election in Siheung-eul, Gyeonggi Province. Since Siheung-eul was originally selected as a primary election district, internal opposition from primary candidates is expected.
Kang Hoon-sik, the Democratic Party's chief spokesperson, told reporters after a closed supreme council meeting on the same day, "The supreme council decided to nominate Policy Committee Chair Cho Jung-sik as the sole candidate in Siheung-eul."
Previously, the Democratic Party's nomination management committee had decided on a 'three-person primary' in Siheung-eul, including Chair Cho, former Siheung Mayor Kim Yoon-sik, and lawyer Kim Bong-ho. This decision was reversed within a day.
Regarding the reason for the sole nomination, Chief Spokesperson Kang explained, "Chair Cho is currently reviewing the supplementary budget bill, and as the ruling party's Policy Committee Chair, it is difficult for him to participate in a primary election. Based on this judgment, the decision for sole nomination was made."

Accordingly, internal opposition from primary candidates is inevitable. There is also a possibility that the party's original stance of 'maximizing primary elections' may be tarnished.
