SoftBank to Launch Japan's First 5G Service Starting on the 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Japanese mobile carrier SoftBank announced on the 5th, according to Kyodo News, that it will start 5G service from the 27th.
According to the report, SoftBank allows 5G usage by adding a "5G basic fee" of 1,000 yen to the existing charges for customers who own 5G smartphones.
Among Japanese mobile carriers, SoftBank is the first to disclose specific details of its 5G service. Accordingly, Kyodo News reported that SoftBank is highly likely to be the first in Japan to launch 5G service.
SoftBank stated that if customers apply by August 31, the 5G basic fee will be free for two years.
The areas where 5G service is available as of the end of March include seven regions: Tokyo, Chiba, Ishikawa, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
