Daegu Region Military Officers Consider 1-Week Extension of Emergency Non-Duty Work Including 'Work from Home'

View original image[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu Reporter] The Ministry of National Defense is considering extending the emergency duty system for unit personnel in the Daegu area, which has been severely affected by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), for an additional week.
Choi Hyun-soo, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, stated at a regular briefing on the 5th in response to related questions, "Considering the current situation regarding COVID-19, we are reviewing the plan to extend the emergency duty system in the Daegu area for one more week."
The emergency duty system temporarily allows soldiers and civilian employees, except for key personnel among unit personnel in the Daegu area, to work from designated locations such as their homes. Essential personnel refer to commanders, command and control room staff, power equipment operators, and officers at the cadre level who are essential for maintaining military readiness such as emergency standby.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases within the military remains the same as the previous day at 34. This includes 19 in the Army, 1 in the Navy, 2 in the Marine Corps, 11 in the Air Force, and 1 in the Ministry of National Defense direct units. The sixth confirmed case has recovered and was discharged on the 4th. Additional confirmed cases on this day include one Army soldier and one officer in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and one officer in the Ministry of National Defense direct units in Daejeon.

The military is currently quarantining 5,920 personnel to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The number of quarantined personnel has decreased by about 1,340 compared to the previous day. According to health authorities' standards, the number of quarantined personnel within the military due to confirmed cases, contact with confirmed cases, symptoms, and suspected cases is about 1,120. The military's own preventive quarantine personnel number about 4,800.
