Justice Party's Lee Jeong-mi: "Satellite Parties for Proportional Representation Should Neither Be Allowed Nor Formed"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 5th, Lee Jeongmi, a member of the Justice Party, criticized the satellite parties for proportional representation, saying, "It cannot be done and should not be done."
On the same day, Lee appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyunjung's News Show' and said, "I fully understand the sense of crisis that the Future United Party might lose its status as the first party and concerns about losing control of the political situation. However, from the Justice Party's standpoint, creating satellite parties for proportional representation is something that cannot and should not be done."
He added, "Each party has already entered the process of selecting proportional representation candidates. (To create satellite parties for proportional representation) all democratic procedures would have to be overturned again," and said, "It is very difficult to guarantee how internal party controversies can be resolved."
He continued, "The Future United Party has been criticized for creating satellite parties for proportional representation as a wrongful act that steals votes from the people and has even filed a constitutional lawsuit. If we also create satellite parties for proportional representation, people will say, 'Aren't they all the same?'"
Lee said, "Rather than minimizing the number of seats of the Future United Party and insisting on a single big tent, wouldn't it be right to start thinking now about how to increase the overall share of the democratic reform camp?"

He added, "The possibility of coalition politics to respond to satellite parties for proportional representation will be kept open," and said, "For example, if a framework for overall coalition politics regarding proportional voting and constituency elections is created to maximize the share of the democratic reform forces, discussions can take place within that framework."
