Yoon Sang-hyun Declares Independent Candidacy in Michuhol... Direct Showdown with Ahn Sang-soo
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] A contest between incumbent lawmakers of the United Future Party has been set for the April 15 general election in Michuhol-eul, Incheon. This follows Representative Yoon Sang-hyun's official announcement on the 4th that he will run as an independent after being excluded from the party nomination. The United Future Party has strategically nominated three-term Representative Ahn Sang-soo for this district.
On the 4th, Representative Yoon held a campaign launch event at his election camp set up in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, officially declaring, "I will run as an independent candidate in the 21st general election."
He explained his reason for running as an independent, stating, "There were no flaws whatsoever in any of the nomination screening criteria, whether moral, competitiveness, or legislative activities. On the contrary, I have been ranked among the top in the metropolitan area in party audits and evaluations, and have been assessed as the candidate with the highest chance of winning in various opinion polls, yet I was excluded from the nomination."
Representative Yoon added, "I asked countless times for reasons, but since there was no justifiable cause, everyone remained silent. From the candidate interview stage to after the exclusion from the nomination, the nomination committee persistently urged me to run in another district, citing the chairman's wishes, but I rejected it outright. There is a mountain of work to do for Michuhol-eul, and I cannot abandon the residents for political survival," emphasizing his stance.
He appealed, "This nomination is a truly bad one that trampled on public sentiment through political engineering, and I ask the residents of Michuhol to correct this wrong nomination."
Representative Yoon also openly criticized Representative Ahn, who was nominated by the United Future Party for Michuhol-eul.
He fiercely condemned, "Due to the flawed nomination, the Michuhol-eul election has turned into a battle between Yoon Sang-hyun, who is running for Michuhol-eul, and someone who came to Michuhol-eul just for the election. It has become a confrontation between someone running for the future of Michuhol's children and someone running for the extension of their political life."

Representative Yoon concluded by saying, "Although my party affiliation is with the United Future Party, in Michuhol I have been thoroughly a Michuhol Party member, and in the National Assembly, I have served as a member of the Republic of Korea Party. I ran four years ago after receiving a citizen nomination, and I will definitely win this time as well," he emphasized.
