North Korea Targets 'Love's Emergency Landing' as "Profit from National Division Tragedy... Will Pay the Price"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] North Korea has criticized South Korean TV dramas and movies for commercially exploiting the tragedy of national division.
North Korea's external propaganda outlet 'Uri Minjokkkiri' stated on the 4th in a commentary titled "An Absolutely Unforgivable Heinous Provocation" that "Recently, the South Korean authorities and film production companies have been actively engaged in slanderous propaganda by circulating absurd and extremely impure anti-Republic films and TV dramas filled with falsehoods and fabrications."
Although no specific titles were mentioned, it appears to refer to the tvN drama 'Crash Landing on You' and the movie 'Baekdusan'.
In the recently concluded drama 'Crash Landing on You', North Korea was depicted as economically backward compared to South Korea.
The movie 'Baekdusan', released in December last year, shows Baekdusan erupting and a building presumed to be the North Korean Workers' Party headquarters collapsing.
Uri Minjokkkiri said, "The South Korean authorities, who have ruined inter-Korean relations with pro-American submissive policies and military confrontation madness, are now praising and spreading such hateful anti-North confrontation films, leaving both domestic and international audiences in shock," adding, "Those who take the tragic national division, which should be lamented with a heavy heart, as a source of profit and derive pleasure from it are nothing but despicable misers and scoundrels without a shred of conscience."
It continued, "The South Korean authorities and the production companies that shamelessly produce and distribute films and dramas that completely distort and fabricate our bright reality will surely pay the price for maliciously slandering their own kin."
On the same day, another external propaganda outlet 'Meari' released a commentary titled "Not Artistic Fiction or Imagination but a Product of Pathological Inter-Korean Confrontation Consciousness."
Meari stated, "Recently, anti-Republic propaganda materials, including films and TV dramas consistently slandering our Republic, have been broadcast in South Korea, provoking the anger of our people," and asked, "Do the South Korean authorities think that by producing and circulating such slanderous films, they can obscure the corruption of the rotten and sick South Korean society, undermine the dignity and authority of our Republic, and shift the responsibility for destroying peace on the Korean Peninsula onto others?"
