Homeplus Opens Same-Day Delivery Ready-to-Eat Side Dish Specialty Store 'Samcheongdong Siktak'
'Side Dish Store That Makes You Want Home-Cooked Meals Often' Concept
First Attempt by Major Distribution Channel
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Homeplus announced on the 4th that it has launched ‘Samcheongdong Siktak,’ a specialty store for ready-to-eat side dishes, selling 23 types of various instant side dishes such as seasoned vegetables, mixed dishes, stir-fried dishes, braised dishes, salted seafood, stew meal kits, and grilled dishes through both online and offline channels.
This is the first time that a large retail channel such as a hypermarket or department store operates an online service for instant side dishes. Consumers who pay before 2:20 PM can receive same-day delivery at their designated time slot until 10 PM.
The variety is also diverse. From side dishes that are difficult to prepare in small quantities at home, such as bracken, bellflower root, spinach namul, dried radish strips, special perilla leaves, bellflower root and cucumber salad, shredded squid, almond anchovy stir-fry, rolled eggs, stir-fried fish cakes, and braised tofu, to more complex dishes like japchae, braised lotus root, braised soybeans, braised eggs, and ‘rice thieves’ salted seafood such as squid jeotgal, octopus jeotgal, and pollack roe jeotgal, a wide range of side dishes are offered.
Homeplus explained that Samcheongdong Siktak was opened considering the increasing demand for convenience foods and side dishes. In fact, the average daily online sales of convenience foods and side dishes in the last week of February increased by up to 70% compared to mid-February. Instant rice sales also rose about 46% year-on-year in both online and offline channels throughout February.
Currently, Samcheongdong Siktak is being piloted at three stores: Homeplus Gangseo, Jamsil, and Homeplus Special Namhyeon. It will be gradually expanded to nationwide stores within this month and is planned to operate in 80 major stores nationwide by the first half of the year. To commemorate the launch of Samcheongdong Siktak, Homeplus is also holding a promotion until the 31st, selling four packs of 4,500 won products for 10,000 won (regular price 18,000 won).
