[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed a welcoming stance regarding the official agreement reached on the 29th (local time) between the United States and the Afghan armed group Taliban to end the 18-year war.
The United States and the Afghan armed group Taliban, after a year of negotiations, finalized the agreement in Doha, Qatar, with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef in attendance.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's statement, "Our government welcomes the signing of the agreement between the U.S. government and the Taliban in Doha, Qatar, to establish peace in Afghanistan, and the announcement of the U.S.-Afghan joint declaration in Kabul, Afghanistan."
Furthermore, it emphasized the expectation for sincere negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government scheduled to begin on the 10th. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed, "Our government hopes that both sides will engage sincerely in the internal negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government, set to commence on the 10th, laying the foundation for building peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region."

Under the condition that the Taliban fulfills the agreement to cease armed actions, U.S. troops and NATO allied forces deployed in Afghanistan will fully withdraw within 14 months. As the first phase, the U.S. military plans to reduce its stationed forces from 13,000 to 8,600 within 135 days starting from this day. Additionally, NATO also expressed support for the agreement and announced plans to reduce its deployment scale.
