Two Inmates at Gimcheon Prison Confirmed with COVID-19, Total Now 3 Cases

COVID-19 testing underway for inmates and guards at Gimcheon Prison
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Two additional inmates at Gimcheon Correctional Institution in Gyeongbuk have tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to Gimcheon Correctional Institution on the 2nd, two inmates who shared a cell with inmate A (60), who tested positive for COVID-19 on the 29th of last month, were additionally confirmed positive. The total number of COVID-19 confirmed inmates at Gimcheon Correctional Institution has increased to three.
A total of four inmates, including A, lived in the cell where A resided, and three of them tested positive for COVID-19. A was released immediately after the positive diagnosis due to suspension of detention execution. The two inmates who were additionally confirmed positive were isolated and housed in the family meeting room.
Health authorities conducted COVID-19 tests on 29 inmates and 18 correctional officers at Gimcheon Correctional Institution. Among the 29 inmates, two tested positive, 18 tested negative, and the remaining nine are undergoing testing. Among the 18 correctional officers tested, 12 tested negative and six are still being tested.

Health authorities are disinfecting the detention building where the COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed. The initial source of infection has not been identified to date.
