Moon Administration's 'Positive' 46.1% vs 'Negative' 50.7%... Gap Beyond Margin of Error [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The gap between positive and negative evaluations of President Moon Jae-in's performance in office is widening.
According to Realmeter's survey conducted on behalf of YTN from the 25th to the 28th of last month, the positive evaluation of President Moon's performance dropped by 1.3 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 46.1%, announced on the 2nd. Meanwhile, the negative evaluation rose by 1.6 percentage points to 50.7%.
The gap between positive and negative evaluations was 4.6 percentage points. After the negative evaluation exceeded the margin of error in the 5th week of January, the ratings showed mixed trends but widened beyond the margin of error again after four weeks.
In particular, the decline in approval ratings was led by significant drops in the 30s age group (7.6%p↓, 45.4%), the undecided voters (8.9%p↓, 20.0%), and students (12.3%p↓, 36.6%).
Looking at daily indicators, after closing at 46.7% (negative evaluation 50.2%) on the 21st of last month, it fell to 45.6% (negative evaluation 50.8%) on the 25th and 44.7% (negative evaluation 51.0%) on the 26th, but rebounded to 45.1% (negative evaluation 51.4%) on the 27th and recovered again to 47.5% (up 2.4%p, negative evaluation 50.5%) on the 28th.
Realmeter predicted, "The COVID-19 issue will act as the biggest variable in the political landscape going forward."
Regarding party support ratings, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 41.0%, up 0.5 percentage points from the previous week, while the United Future Party dropped 2.7 percentage points to 31.0%.
The Justice Party rose by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3%, followed by the Minsheng Party at 4.1%, the People’s Party at 1.7%, the Our Republican Party at 1.6%, and the Minjung Party at 1.0%.
Meanwhile, in the proportional representation party vote intention survey for the 21st general election conducted by Realmeter on behalf of 'OhmyNews' (nationwide adults aged 18 and over, 1,015 respondents, 5.1% response rate, margin of error ±3.1 percentage points at 95% confidence level), the Democratic Party led with 35.3%.

The United Korea Party, the proportional party of the United Future Party, recorded 30%, followed by the Justice Party at 9.8%, the People’s Party at 4.0%, and the Minsheng Party at 3.9%.
The survey on President Moon’s approval rating and party support was conducted by contacting 48,703 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 2,520 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a 5.2% response rate and a margin of error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
