[Asia Economy Reporter Jonggil Lee] Director Bong Joon-ho's Parasite won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the C?sar Awards, known as the French Academy Awards.
The Acad?mie des Arts et Techniques du Cin?ma announced on the 28th (local time) at the 45th C?sar Awards ceremony held at the Salle Pleyel theater in Paris that Parasite was selected as the winner of the Best Foreign Language Film award.
Parasite triumphed over six other films including Quentin Tarantino's (USA) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Pedro Almod?var's (Spain) Pain and Glory, Todd Phillips' (USA) Joker, and Marco Bellocchio's (Italy) The Traitor. The C?sar Awards is the largest local film festival in France, primarily awarding outstanding French films annually since 1976. Winners are decided by votes from the Acad?mie des Arts et Techniques du Cin?ma.
The Best Film award went to director Ladj Ly's Les Mis?rables. The film depicts the story of children exposed to violence in a suburb of Paris who fall into a larger world of violence. Following its Jury Prize win at last year's Cannes Film Festival, it also took home the top C?sar award.
