Korean and Chinese Ministries of Education Agree to Recommend International Students Refrain from Traveling Abroad Starting Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Ministries of Education of South Korea and China agreed on the 28th to recommend refraining from international travel for students studying abroad between the two countries to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Ministry of Education announced that it has signed the "Korea-China Mutual Recommendation to Refrain from Student Entry and Exit" agreement with the Chinese Ministry of Education.
According to the agreement, the Ministry of Education recommends that Korean students enrolled in Chinese universities refrain from traveling to China until the COVID-19 situation stabilizes.
The Chinese Ministry of Education will take the same measure for Chinese students enrolled in Korean universities traveling to South Korea.
The Ministry of Education stated, "This measure was taken to prioritize the health and safety of students," and added, "This agreement will be applied immediately after 6 p.m. on the day of the announcement."
According to the Ministry of Education, about 50,000 Korean students are currently studying at Chinese universities, and most of them are known to be staying in Korea at present.
