Maldives Government "Entry Ban on Travelers from Certain Areas Departing from Korea"
Previously, Direct Flights to China Were Also Suspended
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] The Maldives in the Indian Ocean is expected to partially ban entry for travelers arriving from Korea.
According to local media on the 27th, the Maldivian government stated, "Due to the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Korea, we will ban entry for those coming from certain regions of Korea."
However, the Maldivian government did not specify which regions are affected or how they will identify travelers from these specific areas.
The Maldivian government also said, "Entry will be banned for those coming from or transiting through Iran, and cruise ship arrivals will be temporarily prohibited."
There have been no confirmed COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives so far.

Earlier, when COVID-19 spread in China, the Maldives temporarily suspended direct flights to and from China earlier this month and banned entry for foreign travelers who had passed through China.
