To overcome the blood supply shortage crisis caused by concerns over the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), 100 police officers including Chief Jung Young-jin and Captain Yang Bong-gyu of Patrol Vessel 1508, along with 50 conscripted police officers, donated blood.
Chief Jung said, “Upon hearing the news that blood supply is difficult due to COVID-19, I voluntarily participated,” and added, “Going forward, all staff will actively participate in social service activities to overcome national crises.”
Meanwhile, according to the Korean Red Cross, blood reserves decrease during winter vacation, and due to COVID-19, cancellations of group blood donations and a decrease in individual donations have caused difficulties in blood supply.
As concerns have been raised that continued situations like this could cause disruptions in medical treatment, Mokpo Maritime Police prepared for two days to participate in emergency blood donation.
