According to Kyodo News on the 26th, Hokkaido confirmed the COVID-19 infection of an elderly person in Hakodate City, Hokkaido, who died the previous day. The official number of deaths in Japan from COVID-19 has increased to 6.
This is the second death from COVID-19 outside of passengers on the cruise ship Diamond Princess. On the 13th, an elderly woman in her 80s residing in Kanagawa Prefecture died after being infected with COVID-19. She was not a passenger on the Diamond Princess.
