The Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 4 (Presiding Judge Park Junmin) announced on the 13th that A (58), who was charged with insult and assault, was sentenced to 4 months in prison with a 1-year suspension.
The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, "The crime caused shame and anxiety to the pregnant victim, so the nature of the crime is serious," but also considered "there was no confirmation that the crime continued after the victim revealed she was pregnant, and A has no prior criminal record."
A is known to have approached B (30), who was sitting in a priority seat for pregnant women at Cheonho Station on Seoul Subway Line 5 in May last year, and verbally abused and assaulted her.
At the time, A reportedly shouted loudly at B, "Hey, you XXX. These days, all XXX should be killed," and also used abusive language such as "It says not to sit here. You XX."
Additionally, A is said to have kicked B's left ankle several times.
It was confirmed that B was indeed pregnant at the time.
