China reports 1,016 deaths and 42,638 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus so far (Update)
[Asia Economy Beijing=Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In China, 1,016 people have died and 42,638 have been confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus so far.
On the 11th, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 2,478 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus were reported nationwide. Among them, 2,097 new cases were from Hubei Province, the epicenter of the outbreak.
108 people lost their lives in a single day. This is the first time the daily death toll in China has exceeded 100. Of the 108 additional deaths, 103 occurred in Hubei Province, with one death each reported in Beijing, Tianjin, Heilongjiang Province, Anhui Province, and Henan Province.
According to cumulative figures, a total of 42,638 people across China have been confirmed infected with the novel coronavirus. Among them, 3,996 have recovered and been discharged, and 1,016 have died. The death toll has surpassed 1,000 for the first time.
Currently, 37,626 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals after being confirmed infected. Among them, 7,333 are classified as severe cases, indicating that the death toll is expected to continue rising.
The current number of suspected cases stands at 21,675. The number of close contacts with patients is 428,438, of whom 187,728 are currently under medical observation.
