GS Caltex and Naver Join Forces to Infuse Digital Technology into the Energy Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] GS Caltex and Naver signed a 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Digital Transformation Collaboration and New Business Opportunity Discovery' on the 11th at the GS Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This MOU is the result of GS Caltex's efforts to strengthen digital competitiveness in a rapidly changing business environment and Naver's efforts to develop new business models through collaboration with energy companies.
Through this MOU, both companies agreed to start discussions on collaboration to develop digital technologies applicable across the energy business, including ▲utilizing Naver Cloud at GS Caltex business sites ▲customer communication using enterprise messenger ▲introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) services in work areas.
GS Caltex will discuss ways to securely manage data generated from the Yeosu plant and gas station mobility services by utilizing Naver Cloud. In particular, they are reviewing plans to build a system within the first half of the year to collect and manage electric vehicle charging and payment data on Naver Cloud, and to begin testing for the construction of an integrated mobility platform in the future.
Additionally, GS Caltex plans to discuss improving communication convenience with customers by using Naver's enterprise messenger, LINE WORKS, to receive orders from customers and provide related information. LINE WORKS, which holds the number one market share in Japan's business collaboration tool market, offers various functions for collaboration such as information sharing and chatbots, and also has strengths in information protection.
They will also consider automating existing simple and repetitive tasks. By utilizing Naver's AI technology, they plan to recognize characters written on paper documents or images, convert them into data for use, and improve employee work efficiency by enabling quick and easy search of internal documents using Naver's search engine technology.
Representatives from both companies stated, "It is highly meaningful that two companies representing the energy and digital industries collaborate to create new business value in the industrial field," and added, "We will continue to strive to strengthen business competitiveness and provide various convenience services for customers through digital innovation activities."
