Hi Air Achieves Milestone of 10,000 Cumulative Passengers in 2 Months Since Launch
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the afternoon of the 10th, at Yeosu Airport in Jeollanam-do, the small airline Hi Air, which has been playing a role in revitalizing the local economy, held a meaningful event that attracted attention.
On this day, Hi Air presented the 10,000th passenger with an unlimited domestic flight ticket valid for one year on all domestic routes. The lucky passenger was departing from Yeosu Airport to Gimpo International Airport.
According to Hi Air on the 10th, the airline surpassed 10,000 cumulative passengers within two months since its first flight on December 11 last year.
To commemorate this, Hi Air held a celebration event for the 10,000th cumulative passenger at 4 p.m. at Yeosu Airport in Jeollanam-do. The event was attended by Kim Je-uk, head of the Yeosu Airport branch of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ko Young-jun, head of the Transportation Department of Yeosu City, Ham Young-joo, director of Yeosu Airport of Korea Airports Corporation, and Hi Air officials.
Jung Su-yeon, head of Hi Air’s IT Marketing Strategy Team, said, “We feel a fresh sentiment welcoming the 10,000th passenger,” adding, “We will do our best to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy in Yeosu as well as Ulsan.”
In fact, the airline is reportedly considering increasing flights on the Yeosu-Seoul route and launching a new Yeosu-Ulsan route within the first half of this year to contribute to the activation of Yeosu Airport and local tourism. However, it is said that the increase in flights will be carried out after reviewing the boarding rate trends of residents in the southeastern region of Jeollanam-do.
Currently, Hi Air operates one round-trip flight daily on the Yeosu-Seoul route. The flight from Yeosu to Seoul departs at 4:30 p.m., and the flight from Seoul to Yeosu departs at 2:40 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hi Air’s aircraft is the ATR 72-500 model from the French company ATR, a propeller-type plane preferred by airlines in over 200 regions across more than 100 countries worldwide. ATR is a joint venture between the famous aircraft manufacturer Airbus of France and Leonardo of Italy.
Hi Air’s aircraft originally has 72 seats but has been modified to 50 seats, offering a comfortable experience with all seats at a premium economy class level (approximately 97 cm seat pitch). The wings are located above the fuselage, and the low flight altitude allows passengers to enjoy views over the Korean Peninsula. It is also known as an eco-friendly aircraft that reduces about 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually compared to aircraft of the same class.
