[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] NHN achieved its best-ever performance last year, recording sales of 1.4891 trillion KRW and operating profit of 86.9 billion KRW.
NHN announced on the 10th that its operating profit for 2019 was 86.9 billion KRW, a 26.6% increase compared to the previous year. Last year's sales amounted to 1.4891 trillion KRW, up 17.8% year-on-year. With this, NHN's sales and operating profit last year reached record highs.
Thanks to balanced growth across each business division, NHN has consistently shown sales growth, recording nearly 1.5 trillion KRW in performance last year.
In the fourth quarter of last year, sales were 400.6 billion KRW, operating profit was 17.7 billion KRW, and net loss was 30.7 billion KRW. Looking at fourth-quarter sales by segment, game sales reached 100.3 billion KRW, up 1.5% from the previous quarter, driven by strong performance of 'Compass' and 'Crusader Quest' as well as web board games, with mobile web board games showing about a 20% sales increase.
The payment and advertising business segment saw PAYCO transaction volume grow 30% year-on-year, and NHN Korea Cyber Payment achieved sales of 140.5 billion KRW, up 2.8% year-on-year, due to increased online commerce and overseas merchant transactions.
The content segment experienced sales growth effects from NHN Bugs’ artist album releases and expanded music distribution; however, NHN Ticketlink’s seasonal off-peak effects led to a 0.3% decrease year-on-year, with sales of 44.8 billion KRW.
The commerce segment recorded sales of 71.7 billion KRW, up 33.1% year-on-year, driven by a significant increase in Acommate sales due to China’s Singles’ Day and stable sales contributions from NHN Global and NHN Godo.
In the technology segment, sales rose 32.7% year-on-year to 42.1 billion KRW, supported by seasonal peak effects at PNP Secure, increased external sales of TOAST Cloud, and continued strong sales of cloud products from NHN Tecorus.
Other businesses recorded 6.4 billion KRW in sales, down 22.0% year-on-year, affected by decreased travel demand at NHN Travel Doctor.
NHN is preparing to launch 'Critical Ops: Reloaded' and 'Yongbi Bulpae M' in the first half of this year, and plans to release new battle royale FPS titles and games based on popular animation intellectual properties (IP) targeting Asian markets such as Japan.
