According to Chungnam Province on the 10th, President Moon made a sudden visit to Jincheon and Asan the previous day to hear about the operation and quarantine measures of the temporary living facilities for Wuhan evacuees set up in each area and encouraged the officials.
In Asan, he held a luncheon meeting with Chungnam Governor Yang Seung-jo, local residents, representatives of merchants' associations, and small business associations, taking time to encourage the residents.
At the meeting, President Moon said, "There is no need for the public to be excessively anxious," and added, "It is the government's responsibility to be vigilant and cautious about the new infectious disease and to make every effort."
He emphasized, "All tension and anxiety should be entrusted to the government, and by listening to the government's public announcements and following the necessary safety measures, we can safely overcome the current situation."
President Moon also addressed concerns about the regional economic downturn due to the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia). He said, "It is appropriate to refrain from events that attract crowds, such as local festivals, but economic and consumption activities necessary for daily life can continue as usual," and added, "The government will also establish measures so that our economy can return to normal as soon as possible and not pose difficulties to the national and regional economies."
In response, Chungnam Governor Yang Seung-jo said, "Chungnam believes and is committed that there can be no division between the central and local governments in the face of a national crisis."
He also informed President Moon that a field office and accommodation had been set up in a village next to the temporary living facility, saying, "Chungnam will focus on blocking and preventing the community spread of the novel coronavirus through close cooperation with the central government and health authorities," and requested, "We ask the government for special consideration and support for revitalizing the local economy of Asan and Chungnam."
After the residents' meeting, President Moon moved with Governor Yang to Onyang Oncheon Traditional Market, where he toured the market and encouraged the merchants.
