Government to Arrange Accommodation for 3rd Repatriation of Wuhan Returnees at a Third Location Excluding Asan and Jincheon
[Asia Economy Reporter Osangdo] The government is reportedly preparing a temporary shelter at a third location, not in Jincheon, Chungbuk or Asan, Chungnam, for additional Korean residents returning from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 9th, the government is searching for a new temporary living facility to accommodate additional repatriated residents in preparation for the deployment of a third chartered flight.
Previously, about 700 repatriated residents who returned in two rounds on the 31st of last month and the 1st of this month are staying at the National Human Resources Development Institute in Jincheon, Chungbuk, and the Police Human Resources Development Institute in Asan, Chungnam. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that these two places are excluded from the candidate facilities for accommodation.
An official from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety explained, "The third chartered flight for additional repatriation could be deployed as early as this week," and added, "The temporary living facilities in Asan and Jincheon currently have few vacancies and cannot accommodate additional people."
The new temporary living facility candidate is expected to be a state-owned educational training facility with around 300 rooms. Considering one room per person and support staff, it must be of a certain scale or larger.
Some have mentioned the Woongjeong Public Officials Training Institute in Cheonan, Chungnam, and the National Youth Center, which the government initially intended to designate as temporary living facilities. However, there are considerable concerns that if temporary living facilities are concentrated in specific areas of Chungnam and Chungbuk, local residents' opposition could intensify again.

Accordingly, it is reported that the government is likely to designate a new facility in another region as a temporary living facility in line with the scale of the third group of repatriated residents.
