"I feel calm."
Two days before the much-anticipated Oscar Day, the main cast of Parasite (director Bong Joon-ho) arrived in the dreamland of Hollywood.
Actors Lee Sun-kyun, Lee Jung-eun, Jang Hye-jin, and Park Myung-hoon landed at Los Angeles International Airport at 1:40 PM (local time) on the 7th.
All the actors stepped onto LA soil with bright expressions. Lee Jung-eun, who previously attended the 77th Golden Globe Awards held in January, showed a considerable sense of composure on her face this time as well.
Even on the plane, the actors maintained a subdued atmosphere. Immediately after arriving in LA, they were asked about their feelings ahead of the Academy Awards. Lee Jung-eun smiled and said, "I feel calm." As the first Korean film to enter the Oscars, there is intense interest both domestically and internationally. However, the actors are determined to continue the race calmly without getting overly excited.
Lee Sun-kyun, Jang Hye-jin, and Park Myung-hoon visited Hollywood for the first time. In particular, Park Myung-hoon attended the Cannes International Film Festival last May but had to secretly watch the film in a theater and leave quickly. This was because his presence could have been a spoiler. This was a directive from director Bong Joon-ho to allow the audience to enjoy the film even more. Therefore, attending the Academy Awards must hold special meaning for him. Still, Park Myung-hoon was reserved and cautious in his words. His face showed a mixture of deep emotions and nervousness.
All the actors looked bright. Despite the 11-hour flight, their expressions showed more anticipation for what lies ahead than fatigue.
Director Bong Joon-ho and the entire main cast of Parasite have been invited to the stage at the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, LA, on the 9th. Two days before the ceremony, Lee Sun-kyun, Lee Jung-eun, Jang Hye-jin, and Park Myung-hoon arrived in the U.S., settled in, and are expected to join director Bong Joon-ho, Song Kang-ho, and producer Kwak Sin-ae, CEO of Barunson E&A, to participate in the campaign.
Previously, Parasite was nominated for six awards at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Expectations grew after it won the Best Foreign Language Film award at the Golden Globe Awards, marking the first time for a Korean film.
Starting with these four actors, the entire main cast of Parasite will gather in Hollywood. The "youngest line" actors Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam are scheduled to board a flight to LA on the afternoon of the 9th (Korean time) after completing their schedules in Korea.
The atmosphere at the Dolby Theatre in LA is also heated. The impact of the novel coronavirus is hardly felt as preparations for the Oscars are bustling. Additionally, Oscar commemorative popcorn is being handed out in front of the theater, further heating up the mood.
