Dobong-gu Supports Multi-Child Families with Childcare Service at 1,000 KRW per Hour
Support for families with three or more children under 12 years old, families with two or more children under 36 months, and families raising two or more children including children with severe disabilities... 1,000 KRW per hour of use, up to 960 hours annually per family
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) has been providing a subsidy of 1,000 KRW per hour for multi-child families using the local ‘Childcare Service’ since January this year through the ‘Dobong-type Childcare Service.’
The eligible multi-child families in Dobong-gu include those residing in Dobong-gu with △ three or more children aged 12 or under △ two or more children aged 36 months or under △ families raising two or more children including children with severe disabilities, regardless of income level.
Service users can receive support for up to 960 hours per household annually.
Applications can be made by registering as a multi-child family on the Childcare Service website (www.idolbom.go.kr) or by calling the Dobong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center (995-6800).
The subsidy is paid retroactively to the recipient’s account after the Dobong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center calculates the monthly service usage hours.
To reduce the economic burden on families raising multiple children due to the increase in childcare service fees, the district secured a budget of 96 million KRW in 2020 for the Dobong-type multi-child family childcare service project.
The ‘Childcare Service’ is a program where caregivers visit and safely look after children left alone at home, such as those with working parents. The service targets families with children aged 12 or under, and families with a childcare gap and income below 150% of the median income receive government subsidies on a sliding scale based on income.
The hourly fee for the general hourly childcare service is 9,890 KRW per hour.
Families wishing to receive ‘Childcare Service Government Support’ can apply at their local community center or via the Bokjiro website (http://www.bokjiro.go.kr). After receiving government support approval, they can sign up on the Childcare Service website (http://www.idolbom.go.kr) and apply for the desired service. Families using the service without government support can register and apply directly on the Childcare Service website.
Mayor Dong-jin Lee of Dobong-gu said, "I hope that the ‘Dobong-type Multi-child Family Childcare Service’ will be one way to reduce the childcare burden on multi-child families and help solve the low birthrate problem," adding, "We will strive to create an environment where parents can feel at ease and children can grow up happily."
