[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Yeosu City and Goheung County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that they have decided to postpone the 'National Marathon Competition Commemorating the Opening of the Yeosu-Goheung Land and Island Bridges' to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
This event, scheduled to be held on the 22nd, was jointly organized by Yeosu City and Goheung County to publicly announce the new era of South Sea coastal marine tourism ahead of the opening of five land and island bridges connecting Yeosu and Goheung, and to promote harmony and mutual development between the two cities and counties.
The Yeosu-Goheung Marathon Competition Promotion Committee, Yeosu City, Goheung County, and the Iksan Regional Land Management Office, among others, decided to tentatively postpone the event after careful consideration of the novel coronavirus infection trends, as the event was expected to involve a total of 2,020 marathon enthusiasts nationwide and residents of both cities and counties.
An official from the competition stated, "The decision was made for the safety of marathon participants and residents of both cities and counties," adding, "We will closely monitor the impact of the novel coronavirus and finalize a new schedule in consultation with relevant organizations once the situation stabilizes."
