'Volleyball Enthusiast' Owners Unite... Jung Tae-young & Cho Won-tae "Let's Create Positive Topics" (Summary)
Korean Air and Hyundai Card Partnership Celebration
Volleyball Match 'Uniform Cross-Advertising' Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Last December, Chung Tae-young, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Card, received an unexpected proposal. Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Hanjin Group and President of the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO), personally called and suggested, "Let's show a friendly competition by cross-advertising Hyundai Card and Korean Air during volleyball games." Vice Chairman Chung, who always values novelty and fun, readily accepted. It was a meeting of minds between two club owners who share a special affection for volleyball, often visiting the stadium whenever they have time.
According to industry sources on the 6th, Hyundai Card and Korean Air held a 'uniform cross-advertisement' event during a volleyball game to commemorate their partnership agreement. On the 2nd, during the Dodram 2019?2020 V-League Round 5 held at Cheonan Yu Gwan-sun Gymnasium, the Korean Air Jumbos and Hyundai Capital Skywalkers wore uniforms bearing the logo (CI) of the opposing team's parent company while playing. It was a unique event between two teams fiercely competing for rankings. Currently, Korean Air Jumbos hold 2nd place, and Hyundai Capital Skywalkers are in 3rd place.
Earlier, Hyundai Card and Korean Air signed a Private Label Credit Card (PLCC) partnership agreement in December last year. A PLCC is a credit card created by a company wishing to directly own a credit card product, collaborating with a card company that has expertise in card design and operation. Unlike 'affinity cards' that add specific company benefits to a card company's basic product, PLCCs provide all benefits and rewards from the company itself when customers use the card.
This card is scheduled to be launched exclusively by Hyundai Card as a 'Korean Air dedicated' card around the end of next month. It will be the first airline-exclusive card in Korea. Since Korean Air, which directly manages airline mileage, shares funding and participates in operations, it is expected to offer much greater benefits than affinity cards. Industry attention is also focused on the customized benefits and premium marketing that will be provided by utilizing payment and airline usage data held by both companies.
Vice Chairman Chung also has high expectations for this card. He stated on Facebook, "We plan to create an airline card representing Korea," and added, "Hyundai Card, as the card operator, is committed to doing its best in benefit development, marketing, and data science." Currently, Hyundai Card operates PLCCs with companies in various sectors such as Costco, E-Mart, eBay, Hyundai·Kia Motors, and GS Caltex.

Meanwhile, the game on that day ended with a victory for the Korean Air Jumbos. Both teams shared two wins each up to the 4th set, but in the final 5th set, Korean Air Jumbos scored 15 points while Hyundai Capital Skywalkers scored 13, with Korean Air defeating Hyundai Capital. Volleyball fans responded that the game was refreshing as it seemed like players were switching teams during the match. Both teams plan to continue the uniform cross-advertisement event not only during the regular season but also through the final game of the postseason.
