[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Sung-yeol] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo criticized the party's nomination management committee (Nomination Committee) on the 6th, saying, "Is it a fair nomination if the current leader is sent to a favorable district wearing flower shoes, while former leaders are sent to the battlefield wearing straw shoes and cut off?"
On the morning of the same day, former leader Hong posted on his Facebook, stating, "If the Nomination Committee respects the intentions of leader Hwang Kyo-ahn, wouldn't it be a fair nomination to also accept my intention to run in my hometown?"
Former leader Hong said, "Leader Hwang is avoiding running in Jongno and is looking for a favorable district," adding, "I believe the Nomination Committee respects his intention and has no choice but to decide accordingly."
He continued, "At first, I said I would follow the party's decision, but now I say that I will decide my own candidacy location," and argued, "Then, isn't it only right that I, who have devoted 25 years to the party, decide my own candidacy location?"
He stated, "For my last candidacy, no matter who tries to interfere, I will run in my hometown out of infinite devotion to my country and hometown," and added, "I hope there will be no more debates over my candidacy location."
Earlier, the Liberty Korea Party's Nomination Committee reportedly discussed leader Hwang's candidacy location at a meeting held on the 5th but has yet to reach a conclusion. The meeting reportedly mentioned options such as 'running in Jongno,' 'running in a difficult district outside Jongno,' and 'not running.'
Former leader Hong announced that he would run in his hometown of Gyeongnam Miryang·Uiryeong·Haman·Changnyeong in this general election.
