Hampyeong-gun Temporarily Suspends Agricultural Training Amid COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Hampyeong County, Jeollanam-do (Acting County Governor Na Yunsu) announced on the 7th that it will temporarily suspend the New Year Farmers' Practical Education, which has been conducted since the 8th of last month to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, until the 28th of this month.
Previously, the county planned to conduct education sessions a total of 32 times across three fields (farming technology, rural resources, agricultural management), focusing on major crops such as rice and seasoning vegetables, as well as regionally specialized crops like grapes, strawberries, and beekeeping, targeting about 1,800 local farmers.
The county judged that it is inappropriate for many people to gather in enclosed spaces, especially as the novel coronavirus continues to spread and recently the 16th and 18th confirmed cases were reported in nearby Gwangju.
The education sessions for about 620 people, scheduled for 15 sessions until the 28th, will be temporarily suspended, and the resumption of education will be reconsidered depending on future circumstances.

A county official said, “It is regrettable that essential education for farmers is being suspended, but given the current national emergency situation, we internally decided that we cannot recklessly proceed with education at the expense of the lives and safety of county residents. We ask for the understanding of local farmers as we plan to continue item-specific education and education in rural resources and agricultural management fields as soon as the situation stabilizes.”
