[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has established and is implementing cold wave protection measures for elderly living alone to check their safety during winter and prevent solitary deaths.
This project involves public officials being assigned 1:1 to elderly living alone who are vulnerable to cold waves, checking their safety, organizing and operating emergency duty teams for cold wave response, and providing services to help the elderly spend a warm winter.
On the 4th, at 10 p.m., as a cold wave advisory was issued due to the sudden drop in temperature, the district activated the emergency duty team according to the cold wave measures, conducted 1:1 safety checks on about 1,800 elderly living alone, cooperated with related organizations, and is making efforts to prevent safety accidents and damage among vulnerable elderly living alone. If any abnormal signs are found, they plan to respond promptly according to the response manual.
Additionally, six senior welfare centers in the area have been designated as cold wave shelters (maintaining appropriate indoor temperature during winter) and are operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. The shelters are open not only to the elderly but also to any residents of the district during the cold winter.
