Gangseo-gu, Recruiting Dream Tree Orchestra
Providing Artistic Life Opportunities with Sejong Center for the Performing Arts ... Over 60% of Members Selected from Vulnerable Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is recruiting children to create the Our Neighborhood Gangseo-gu Orchestra in collaboration with Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
The Our Neighborhood Gangseo-gu Orchestra is a program that helps local children learn consideration and communication through music, develop teamwork, and grow into healthy and capable members of society.
The recruitment target is about 40 students in grades 4 to 6 of elementary schools in the area, with 60% of the members being selected preferentially from socially vulnerable children who are usually excluded from cultural and artistic education.
Education will be held every Wednesday from March to December, from 4 PM for 2 hours at the Gangseo Cultural Center.
During the education period, children will showcase their skills honed through various activities such as a summer camp where they can create joyful memories, an integrated concert with trainees participating in orchestra projects from four autonomous districts including Gangseo-gu, Gangnam-gu, Nowon-gu, and Seodaemun-gu, and performances at various festivals and events such as the Heo Jun Festival.
Students wishing to participate can apply by visiting the Gangseo-gu Office Culture and Sports Division or via email (izaghi@gangseo.seoul.kr) by the 12th.
Participation is free of charge.
The district will first conduct a document screening, followed by interviews in February with instructors to confirm motivation and aptitude, and announce the final successful candidates on the 28th.
A district official said, “We hope this will be a great and unforgettable opportunity in the children’s lives, and we expect them to become healthy and passionate people through music. We also hope that all residents will gain strength and healing by watching the children grow.”
