Supporting Personal Hygiene and Information-Disadvantaged Low-Income Vulnerable Groups to Prevent Community Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is providing 30,000 infection prevention kits to vulnerable groups in the area to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
Following the WHO's declaration of an international public health emergency on January 31, raising the alert level for the novel coronavirus, the district has maintained a proactive response policy and has begun establishing and implementing prevention measures tailored to the rapidly changing situation.
Most low-income vulnerable residents have weak immune systems, are vulnerable to personal hygiene management, and are in an information blind spot.
The district decided that infection prevention publicity and support specialized for vulnerable groups are necessary, and thus produced and distributed infection prevention kits to enable vulnerable groups to self-diagnose infection status, aiming to prevent the spread of infection in the community.
The infection prevention kit produced this time includes masks, thermometers, hand sanitizing tissues, vitamins, and portable gargles.
The infection prevention kits contain prevention guidelines and a 1339 information leaflet, produced in two languages, Korean and Chinese, to conduct publicity and prevention tailored to areas with a large Chinese population such as Daerim-dong.
Over the weekend, the district produced 20 sample prevention kits and distributed them on a trial basis to construction sites and vulnerable households in Daerim-dong. The first batch of 3,000 kits will be produced and distributed by February 4, the second batch of 2,000 by February 7, and a total of 10,000 infection prevention kits will be distributed by mid-February.
The district plans to expand the distribution targets, especially focusing on areas densely populated by Chinese residents, and support a total of 30,000 kits until the situation stabilizes.
The distribution targets include low-income households such as the elderly, infants, children, multicultural families, disabled persons, and patients with severe diseases, as well as high-risk households who have had contact with Chinese entrants and exiters, including Chinese-dense areas. Selected households by the local community centers will receive visits from local neighborhood officers, welfare planners, and community leaders for distribution.
Additionally, the district continuously disinfects welfare centers and daycare centers, and supports small-scale welfare facilities with poor environments by providing disinfection machines.
Furthermore, disinfection support will be provided to vulnerable housing groups until the 20th of this month to ensure thorough hygiene management.
Moreover, the local autonomous disinfection teams composed of residents are disinfecting garbage accumulation sites, sewers, and public restrooms to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
District Mayor Chae Hyun-il stated, “Focused support for Chinese-dense areas and low-income families is necessary to alleviate residents' anxiety,” and added, “We will mobilize all administrative power to fully commit to novel coronavirus prevention.”
