Preliminary Candidate Lee Seok-hyung: "We Must Take Thorough Measures Against COVID Spread"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Seok-hyung, a preliminary candidate of the Democratic Party for the Gwangsan (Gap) National Assembly election in Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated on the 4th regarding the novel coronavirus infection, "The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Gwangju City health authorities should make every effort to prevent the spread of infection and to treat patients thoroughly."
The preliminary candidate said, "It has been confirmed that the 16th confirmed case of the novel coronavirus is a citizen residing in Gwangsan-gu," adding, "This person returned from a trip to Thailand on the 19th and was exposed without protection for more than half a month."
He continued, "The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and Gwangju City health authorities should do their best to identify contacts of the confirmed patient through epidemiological investigations and trace their movements to ensure that no further confirmed virus infections occur."
He also requested, "To prevent the economic activities, which are the foundation of the local economy, from shrinking, I ask Mayor Lee Yong-seop and Gwangju City to carry out thorough quarantine measures," emphasizing, "Until the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus infection is brought under control, I urge the public to refrain from outdoor activities, wear masks, wash hands, and strictly follow personal hygiene rules to actively cooperate in preventing infectious diseases."
He added, "I thank the constituents who visit the election office and ask them to refrain from visiting the office temporarily until the virus infection spread is controlled," and proposed, "I also suggest that other preliminary candidates temporarily suspend or refrain from outdoor election campaigns."
