Member Ko Yong-jin began his political career as a Seoul Metropolitan Council member in the Nowon Gap district in 1995 and has been active in regional development for over 20 years. He has served as a secretary in the National Assembly Vice Speaker’s office and as a specialist in the Democratic Party’s floor leader office.
He also served as a member of the 4th and 5th Seoul Metropolitan Council, was the Democratic Party candidate for Nowon District Mayor in 2002, and worked as an administrative officer in the Blue House under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, fulfilling duties as the Director of Local Autonomy. Additionally, he held various political roles including Director of Planning and Management at the Korea Environment Corporation (now the Korea Environment Corporation), Deputy Chief of the Democratic Party Representative Office, and Head of the Communication Headquarters Support Team for the Democratic Party’s 18th Presidential Election Campaign.
In particular, according to current and former city and district council members of Nowon Gap, Member Ko Yong-jin reclaimed Nowon Gap for the Democratic Party in the 20th general election in 2016 by defeating the Saenuri Party candidate for the first time in eight years. Since his election, he has brought about definite changes in the Wolgye and Gongneung areas, resolving long-standing local projects such as the Gwangwoon University Station area development project, the Dongbuk Line light rail project, and the creation of the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Park. He has fulfilled most of the promises made to residents four years ago.
They stated, "Only Member Ko Yong-jin, who has lived in Wolgye and Gongneung for 27 years and knows the area best, who understands the roadmap for the development of Wolgye and Gongneung best, and who has cultivated the ongoing local projects, can properly complete the development of the region."
Accordingly, current and former city and district council members of Nowon Gap said, “For uninterrupted development of Nowon and for a stronger Nowon, we actively support National Assembly member Ko Yong-jin’s bid for re-election as the right person to lead the development of Wolgye and Gongneung.”
