Completion of Distribution of 'Portable Water Meter Reading Terminals'
3,000 Meter Readings Conducted per Person
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Government has distributed devices equipped with an alarm system that automatically notifies location information when water meter readers inspecting water meters face emergency situations.
On the 4th, the city announced that it has completed the distribution of new 'portable water meter reading devices' equipped with automatic alarm sounds and location information text message transmission functions.
Water meter readers who inspect water meters in each household are exposed to various accidents. This is because water meters can be installed outside buildings, under manholes in the middle of roads, or 2 to 3 meters underground.
When using the new device, after a certain period, an automatic alarm sound can be heard nearby, and a text message containing location information is sent to the manager, enabling prompt rescue requests. The reader sets an alarm reservation time on the device before inspection and cancels the reservation after inspection. If the reservation is not canceled by the end of the reserved time, the automatic alarm sounds.
There are 2.18 million water meters in Seoul, of which 95.5% are inspected by water meter readers visiting in person. A total of 348 water meter readers perform an average of 3,000 inspections per person per month.
