Bodyfriend Medical R&D Center "Proper Handwashing and Maintaining Body Temperature Are Important"
Announcement on Fact-Checking and Response Methods for the Novel Coronavirus
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheolhyun] Amid growing anxiety over the novel coronavirus infection, Bodyfriend Medical R&D Center has announced countermeasures.
On the 3rd, Cho Younghoon, head of Bodyfriend Medical R&D Center (an otolaryngology specialist), said about the novel coronavirus, "The possibility of asymptomatic infection, as raised by the Chinese government and WHO, is the biggest difference and concerning feature compared to other variant coronavirus infections such as SARS and MERS," and advised, "It is good to pay attention to basic hand washing, wearing masks, maintaining body temperature, and managing stress."
According to Bodyfriend Medical R&D Center, the fatality rate of the novel coronavirus is lower than that of SARS or MERS, but its infectivity is estimated to be higher than MERS. The biggest current controversy is whether asymptomatic patients can transmit the virus to others. Unlike SARS, which has an incubation period of 2 to 7 days, and MERS, which has an incubation period of 5 days, the novel coronavirus is known to have an incubation period of up to 14 days. On the 28th of last month, a suspected case of asymptomatic secondary infection was reported in Germany, and with the occurrence of tertiary infections domestically, this possibility has gained support. This means that there may be undiagnosed patients, so it is important to prevent infection from them and take preventive measures.
The Medical R&D Center emphasized that the first principle for preventing the novel coronavirus is hand washing and wearing masks. There are various grades of masks, and health experts recommend using masks of KF80 grade or higher. One should be careful not to unconsciously rub their eyes or let their hands touch the nose or mouth inside the mask. There is no evidence of airborne transmission yet. By following basic personal hygiene principles, the possibility of infection can be effectively reduced.
