Naju City Operates 'Spring Wildfire Prevention Task Force'

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 3rd that it has designated the period from April 21 to May 15 as the 'Spring Wildfire Prevention Period' and has established and is operating a Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters.
The city is making every effort to promote wildfire prevention among citizens by installing 100 flags along the Geumseongsan forest trail, which is popular among hikers, and hanging promotional banners at a total of 21 banner stands in the town, township, and neighborhood areas within the jurisdiction, as well as broadcasting wildfire prevention messages four times daily.
They plan to devote full efforts to preventing spring wildfires by conducting emergency duty not only on weekdays but also on holidays.
To strengthen wildfire prevention and monitoring activities, 68 wildfire prevention and suppression specialists and wildfire monitors have been selected and deployed to major forest trails and wildfire-prone areas.
The city has especially installed a wildfire suppression helicopter parking area near Naju Bridge and will operate it continuously during the spring wildfire prevention period to focus on initial suppression efforts.
Management of restricted mountain entry zones and hiking trails will also be strengthened.
Earlier, on December 30 of last year, the city designated and announced 16 restricted mountain entry zones (6,167 hectares) and 9 hiking trail sections (35 km) with high wildfire risk as closed areas.

A city official said, “Citizens who witness wildfires are requested to immediately report to the administrative welfare center of the relevant town, township, or neighborhood, or to the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters (Forest and Park Division).”
