[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “Children growing up in the village. We call those children 'maeul dungi' (village children)... That is how we raise children in the village, and the children grow up as the village's own within the village.” (Excerpt from the casebook)
Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has published a casebook titled "Stories of Trees," which introduces cases of village community activities and shares stories of happy villages within the city.
The storytelling-style casebook aims to promote village community revitalization and share exemplary cases to enhance residents' understanding, capturing neighbors happily living together within the village through text and photos.
The casebook is B5 size (180mm×255mm), totaling 215 pages, and organizes stories from 43 village community contest projects and 12 local community spaces called Happiness Development Centers into eight themes: ▲Happy Community Nowon Seed Stage ▲Happy Community Nowon Sprout Stage ▲Our Village Support Project ▲Village Life Small Groups ▲Making Neighbors ▲Community Space Interviews ▲Planning - Agora ▲Planning - Study.
For example, the "Happy Community Nowon Seed Stage" describes the reasons for becoming interested in village communities and the process of realizing that the cooperative spirit of neighbors creates a happy village,
while the "Happy Community Nowon Sprout Stage" shares reflections from direct participation in various projects for village development, introducing the process of becoming actively involved in village affairs.
Additionally, other themes such as "Our Village Support Project" introduce specific experiences like social cooperative activities, covering everything from initial interest in village communities to concrete activities and interviews with leaders who have led various community activities, serving as a guide for actual participation.
This is the sixth edition of the casebook documenting village community activities since its inception in 2014.
The district plans to distribute the newly published casebook to major facilities within the district such as libraries, related village community organizations, and welfare institutions to spread diverse examples of village activities.
This year, the district will also hold a contest for village community support projects, planning to support a total of 106 projects with approximately 120 million KRW.
