Jeonnam Province Achieves 'Excellent Anti-Corruption Agency' for 3 Consecutive Years
Selected as an Excellent Institution with Grade 2 in the '2019 Anti-Corruption Policy Evaluation'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) has been selected as an excellent anti-corruption institution for three consecutive years.
Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) announced on the 29th that following its achievement as an ‘Excellent Integrity Institution in 2019,’ it was selected as an excellent institution by receiving a Grade 2 rating among metropolitan local governments in the ‘2019 Anti-Corruption Policy Evaluation’ conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The Anti-Corruption Policy Evaluation is a system that evaluates and supports anti-corruption efforts autonomously pursued by each public institution to raise the level of integrity in the public sector.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission has been announcing the results annually since 2002.
This evaluation was conducted on 270 public institutions.
So far, Jeonnam Province has maintained Grade 2 to 3 in the Anti-Corruption Policy Evaluation since 2012, received Grade 1 evaluations consecutively in 2017 and 2018, and achieved Grade 2 last year, accomplishing the feat of being an excellent anti-corruption institution for three consecutive years.
Only three other institutions besides Jeonnam (Gyeonggi, Busan, Jeju) were selected as excellent institutions for three consecutive years.
This result is analyzed to be due to the comprehensive efforts to establish focused measures in vulnerable areas of integrity and to create an integrity ecosystem, which were set as goals for the ‘Year of Restoring Integrity in Jeonnam’ last year.
Among the total seven areas, Jeonnam received high scores in three areas: operation of anti-corruption systems, anti-corruption policy performance, and efforts to spread anti-corruption policies.
In particular, it was highly praised for ▲disclosing on the website the timing of orders, construction amounts, and contract methods for construction works and services over 10 million won ▲conducting ‘visiting integrity consulting’ for construction sites over 20 million won ▲providing anti-corruption and integrity education for all employees and senior public officials ▲improving the 2019 integrity evaluation results ▲and activities of the public-private council to spread an integrity culture.
